Police are appealing for information after two police horses were chased and bitten by a dog during a patrol in Broomfield near Chelmsford, Essex this week.
Police horses Bella and Biscuit both needed stitches to wounds and will be off work for at least a week after being bitten at about 3pm on Wednesday, January 12th.
Their riders, Pc Frank Pallet and Pc Sarah Fisk, were both thrown from their horses but were uninjured.
A dog has been seized, and a thirty-four-year-old local woman was arrested for having a dog dangerously out of control in a public place and has been released on bail.
Bella has had stitches in two wounds to a shoulder and puncture wounds around her body. Biscuit has been more seriously injured and has a deep cut to his near side foreleg and puncture wounds around his body. He has been stitched from elbow to hoof.
Police are asking for anyone who may have come into contact with the dog or witnessed the incident with the police horses to contact Ds Wayne Norcott at Chelmsford on 0300 333 4444.
